Car gadgets special
car gadgets
Today a car gadgets special on all cool and new.com. Many modern features for cars these days are built-in when you buy the car, like sat nav, parking sensors, iPod connectivity etc. But you can always customize your ride to your very own specific needs. We've been getting a lot of reports on new car gadgets the last few weeks, so let's put them together and combine the ultimate all cool and new car interior. If you have any suggestions yourself, let us know via the comment box!
The screens
Most of the technology we would like to put in our all cool and new car resolves around multimedia. Let's assume we've got some decent speakers hidden in the interior, both in the front and in the back of the car. Then all we need are some LCD displays for the driver and passengers. These are some nice options we came across:
Headrest with LCD display
This is one of the headrests by Chinavasion (starting at $118,-). It has a widescreen LCD display and if you flip the screen down you can put in a DVD. In the front you can plug in a USB stick or SD card with media and use the screen to browse trough your files. The headrest supports DVD, VCD, MP3, audio CD, DivX and XviD.
Car sun visor with built-in LCD display
For the front seat passenger this sun visor could do the trick. It has the same features as the headrest but even has a touch screen and TV antenna built in.
Rearview mirror with LCD display
Of course the driver shouldn't be excluded from any LCD screen fun, but shouldn't be distracted from driving either. You can find a lot of rear view mirrors with integrated LCD displays these days which can be used to display GPS navigation information or can be connected to a camera, to watch the kids fight in the back seat or to make sure you don't hit any obstacles when parking.
The media center
If playing a CD, listening to the radio or connecting your iPod isn't enough entertainment, you can always put a media center PC somewhere in the back of your car and connect it to an LCD display in the dashboard. Imagine your car being parked in front of the house and being able to stuff the hard drive of your car PC with media files over your WLAN. If setting up a complete PC for your car is a bit too much, a media hard drive enclosure can be an other option.

For advanced setups, mp3car.com is a good start to find more information. The video below shows a short demonstration on how to install a PC in your car.
-  Flower USB hub

Nice add-ons! I'm pretty sure I came across some sort of HUD-like semi-transparent LCD in the front window. That's a pretty cool way to view your navigation :)
